Habitat conservation is the foundation of Pheasants Forever and is why we are known as “The Habitat Organization”.  One of the primary objectives of our Chapter is to improve local wildlife habitat.  The ultimate goal of our habitat program is to increase populations of game birds such as pheasant and quail.  However, we support all habitat restoration regardless of size as it not only benefits game birds, but other local wildlife including songbirds and beneficial insects.

Today, most of our area has been converted to non-native grasses, agricultural crops, and suburban development.  As a result, several wildlife species, including game birds, dependent upon quality early successional or grassland habitat have experienced significant declines in population.  In order to stabilize and increase the population of pheasant, quail, and other wildlife, we must focus on protecting, improving, and increasing suitable habitat.

Grassland habitat consists of a mixture of native warm season grasses and wildflowers.  This habitat provides needed nesting, brood rearing, feeding, and wintering areas for game birds and many other species of wildlife.

We have a habitat team that can provide technical assistance with restoration projects.  Contact Dan Wood for more information on how we can help you with your project.

We offer seed at very competitive prices for your project.  The Order Seed page includes information on seed mixes which can be used in your habitat project.

Our Chapter has a warm season grass drill which can be used to plant your habitat.  Visit the WSG Drill page for more information.
